(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

These photos are from our good friends, Hiroshi and Nanette Hayakawa, whom we've showcased here on Bocci's Beefs quite a few times. Hiroshi is a talented artist and photography professor at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), where Parental Unit teaches, and he's the author of Kiragami Menagerie,  and Kiragami Animals, which we've previously spotlighted. Nanette, who also works at CCAD, is an art lover, animal lover and inveterate world traveler, who's graciously shared her photos of dogs in Paris, London and other fabulous cities around the globe.

Today, we'd like to share some of their very special photos from Japan, Hiroshi's home country, from which they just returned.

The photo directly below features an organization that runs dog shelters for the animals left behind in the wake of last year's  tsunami and nuclear disaster. Although their website and blog (where they feature photos of the dogs they've taken in), is in Japanese, Hiroshi kindly provided this information:

There are 2 primary purposes of their dog shelters. One) to keep the unidentified dogs until the owners come to them and claim the dogs to be theirs. Two) to temporarily keep the dogs that belong to the owners who cannot keep the dogs with them. Many people lost their houses from this disaster, they are now living in the apartments and not allowed to keep any pets. The owners visit their dogs in the shelters every now and then. They have a blog where they post the dogs they currently have in the shelters as well as material donations they are receiving. This organization set up a bank account dedicated to this cause [to which people from around the world can donate.]

On the lighter side...dig these matching outfits!

                            Schnauzer enjoying a park

And a tiny Red Sox fan!

We'll leave you with our favorite photo: Nanette and a statue of Hachiko outside of the train station where he faithfully waited nine years for his owner's return.

While you're here, why not join the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Hop-guaranteed fun and probably a lot less "wordy"!
