Today, the BlogPaws Community is dedicating this Wordless Wednesday in memory of one of our own community members, Lorie Huston, DVM, who passed away yesterday. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Lorie at each of the BlogPaws conferences I attended, and she was always happy to share her professional advice to benefit your pet. Our sincere condolences to her family.

The BlogPaws team is ensuring that her six kitties will be adopted to loving homes.

Meanwhile, back at the Ohio ranch, I can assure you I don't get near a swimming pool. In fact, I even jump over water puddles on my walks...and don't even get me started with baths!

This is the closest I want to come to water...notice all four of my paws are planted on terra firma.

The "theme" at BlogPaws today is, of course, "Conference Recap!", so head on over and see some professional photographs of the conference fun. Although we can't stress enough how wonderful (and, well, fun) it is to join in the pawties and celebrations that mark a BlogPaws Conference, there's lots of serious work for companion animals that happens there, too. And we'll be bringing you interviews with a few of the amazing folks and their pets whom we had the pleasure to meet in sunny Lake Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, here's another photo of Parental Unit with one of her favorite pooches (ahem...), Cardiff, the teddy bear of a Welsh terrier whose parents are the cool holistic veterinarian, Patrick Mahaney and his equally cool partner Phil.

The "theme" this week (and this entire month) over at BlogPaws is "Get Fit With Your Pet"—the perfect way to start the new year, we say! And while you're there, check out their fabulous new website. BlogPaws is certainly ready for 2014!

You know, we stay pretty fit around here: Parental Unit does her (almost) daily exercises and we go for decently long walks. But when it's nice out, I'd love to spend more time romping outdoors.

I do look like the outdoorsy, high energy type, don't I?

We pet bloggers have lots to contribute to the world-wide community of pet lovers, including those folks who work for shelters and rescues. In that vein, BlogPaws has initiated a separate blog hop where you can link up posts directed to your local shelter: Describe three ways your shelter can better use social media to engage the community and increase adoptions. Since neither Bella nor I are officially seniors yet, we'll post a few pics of my predecessor, Mr Carson, who went to the Rainbow Bridge on April 18, 2008, at the age of 16. May he be young again and having a grand time!

BlogPaws is continuing their theme of Adopt-A-Cat Month (and rightly so since it extends for the entire, lovely month of June), with a plea to all cat (and dog) owners to have their pet's teeth and overall dental health checked by a veterinarian. Good dental health is just as important for felines as canines, as our experience with Ms. Bella demonstrates: last year we had Bella's teeth cleaned for the first time in her eight years, and she had to have two rotten teeth removed, and receive a month-long course of antibiotics. Needless to say, she perked up right away, and we learned our lesson.

We're pleased to spread the word, because so many beautiful kitties are euthanized in shelters each year awaiting their forever homes. So if you're interested in adding a feline to your home, please head to your nearest shelter or rescue!
