In The Dog House, Part III

Photo of indoor dog house courtesy of DogTime Media

We've written about the company, "Architecture for Dogs" before because we're totally smitten with their offbeat, yet interactive designs for our pups. And we've certainly written about dog houses before: Our very first "In the Dog House" featuring designs from Columbus College of Art and Design students continues to garner mega hits.

So we're bringing you another installment that includes a "baker's dozen" of really cool designs for indoor dog structures, courtesy of our friends at DogTime Media. And each comes with it's own blueprint, so you handy folks can construct your very own bit of architecture for your pooch. Enjoy!

Pet Shelter Professionals Shine Light on Food Quality-Adoption Rate Connection

Photo of Mimi Ausland, founder of freekibble.com, by J. Nichole Smith.

We would be remiss if we didn't share the results of this study with you, because we think, at the very least, it provides some eye-opening statistics. A survey was conducted by Freekibble.com (founded by they lovely gal above when she was only 11, and Halo, Purely for Pets, who is now their exclusive kibble sponsor.

The survey targeted the thoughts of shelter professionals, who have collectively fed over 450,000 shelter animals, as to whether feeding higher quality food made a difference in adoption rates. And the answer was a resounding "Yes": 71% of the shelter workers surveyed said that better quality food "definitely helps" dogs and cats to get adopted, and an additional 19% of those shelter workers said that it "helps somewhat." The bottom line is, according to Susan Daffron, the founder of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals, is that "animals that feel better and look better are more adoptable." And that makes sense, doesn't it?

Now, we're all in favor of a wide variety of pet food donations to shelters, and Bocci's Beefs, has proudly participated, and will continue to participate in promoting adoption drives and donations to shelters from a wide variety of pet food companies-the more the merrier, we say! But we thought that the results of this particular survey were interesting and surprising enough to pass on to you.

As always, thanks for your support! And speaking of shelter animals...stay tuned later today for a profile of "The Underdog Club"!

The Mid-Century Modern Dog House

Photo of Frank Lloyd Wright dog house courtesy of Modern Dog Magazine

We loved this sweet story in Modern Dog Magazine's most recent newsletter about a young boy who asked Frank Lloyd Wright to design a dog house for his best buddy-and offered to pay the architect from his paper route money!

Parental Unit just happens to love mid-century modern and modern design and was taken with these cool pet accessories, complete with links to their designers, also showcased in this newsletter. We hope you enjoy browsing these MOD-ern accouterments for your furry friends as much as we did.

P.S. A gentle reminder to enter our giveaway for one autographed copy of the adorable children's book, "Arlo needs Glasses". You've only got till Tuesday, August 14 at 8:00 pm to enter! Why wait?

In The Dog House...Again!

Do you remember our last post about well-designed dog houses? It previewed five different dog house designs by freshman students at The Columbus College of Art and Design that were up for auction, with the proceeds going to a local rescue group. Any dog would be thrilled to take his afternoon nap in one of those gorgeous structures! Refresh your memory here: boccibeefs.blogspot.com/2010/07/in-dog-house.html.

Just yesterday our favorite program, CBS Sunday Morning, devoted their entire show to great design, and featured a segment on really cool dog houses we thought you'd love to see. According to this segment, dog houses in the back yard used to be de rigueur for most families in the early to mid-twentieth century. But we'd love to know what you think about their purpose now. Is it more about cool design rather than actual use? After all, I consider my dog house to be the entirety of Parental Unit's home!

P.S. We're excited to bring you some very special product reviews and give-a-ways coming soon-so please stay tuned!
