"A Tender Love Story..."

Between a man and a dog, that is. In today's New York Times, there's a review of a new animated film, just opening today, called "My Dog Tulip", based on the memoir of the British writer, J.R. Ackerley. The film chronicles the 15 year relationship between a German Shepherd named Tulip and a fifty-something single gay man looking for love.

The reviewer describes the film as "one of the most sophisticated dog movies ever created". Pretty high praise, I'd say! The actors voicing the parts are none other than Christopher Plummer as Ackerley, the late Lynn Redgrave as Ackerly's sister and Tulip's day care sitter, and Isabella Rossellini as an empathetic veterinarian. Get this-the dog doesn't talk! The reviewer calls this "merciful"-something tells me he (mercifully) hasn't read our blogs:-) .

Apparently the film also can be a bit graphic in its detailing of "Tulip's excretory rituals...and anatomical changes while in heat", but hey, we see that stuff everyday, don't we?

Read the full review here and enjoy!

I don't know about you all, but I'm heading for this movie as soon as it opens in our neck of the woods!

Right now, though, I'm finishing up some of my other reading I've gotten behind on-do you all need reading glasses like I do?

Wow, that sounds really great! There hasn't been a really good dog movie recently. I wish they'd do a film on Albert Payson Terhune and his collies, since he'd written so many wonderful stories about them.

We likes the picture too. Our reading glasses are ROUND, we thing square glasses are better for square dogs.
