Bad Dogs!

Or so they're made to appear on a new TV show that premiered on Animal Planet just last Saturday. As I'm sure you've noticed, most of the successful dog rehabilitation/training shows have focused on the dog and his or her owner working together to remedy the dogs' errant behavior. (One of our personal favorites is The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan).

But this new show, aptly titled, "Bad Dog!" lets the canines  have their way, and then celebrates all of this wild behavior by posting the offending dogs, and all their wild ways, on You-Tube. As this review in a recent New York Times said, "Animal Planet has run up the white flag on Saturday night. The dogs have won...the battle against growling, biting, territory marking, furniture ripping and garden-bed digging is unwinnable."

We're not fans of this type of show (although in all fairness, we didn't see it). We don't think programs should feature dogs that exhibit out-of-control behavior without some sort of attempt to remedy that behavior, because it's often that type of behavior that gets a dog sent to a shelter or, say, dumped out of a moving car. But what do you think? We'd love to hear your ideas!

Can't say I'm even a fan of most dog training shows on Animal Planet. This new show sounds worse, by far.

Now, if they had a show called "Bad Owner" where people came in and punished the owner (put shock collars on them, used pinch collars, etc, or whatever it is they are doing to "fix" their dog), that show, I would watch.

The people who are on these types of shows... are making money for allowing the filming of whatever it is that they are "pushing". They will say and do whatever keeps the ratings up and the sponsor money rolling in.
I really don't watch ANY of them.

While I'm not a fan of the Dog Whisperer, I'd watch that 100 times over before looking at this new show. What is the point of showing dogs with issues, if you won't help them become better behaved? I would assume most of the people watching have similar dogs at home that they could watch instead. Sounds like a waste of time and money Animal Planet.

I hadn't heard of this show but it sounds like a terrible idea. :(

I'm of the belief that there are not "bad" dogs. Usually, they act like they do because they have bad owners!
