One Dog And 79 Navy Seal Commandos

We just learned from an article published in Global Animal that a dog was part of the Navy Seal team that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. The big questions remains, however: what breed of dog was part of this finely tuned team? This article discusses the various breeds most often used as military dogs, what they're trained to do and how they do it. One piece of interesting news revealed: Until the year 2000, older war dogs were inexplicably required to be euthanized, but thankfully, a new law allows retired military dogs to be adopted. We can only wonder about the reasoning behind the requirement to euthanize dogs that had served their country so heroically. Read the full article on this commando team here: www.globalanimal.org/2011/05/02/one-dog-and-79-commandos-kill-osama-bin-laden/38665/

There's also a segment on tonight's Anderson Cooper 360 about this commando team, and previews indicate that this mystery military dog met President Obama at the White House today, along with the rest of his or her Navy Seal colleagues. Stay tuned for breaking news on this four-footed hero!

I'm kind of shocked that retired military dogs used to be...oh...I don't even woof THAT word. And so recently in history, too. I'm glad they don't do that now, but that's a very shameful thing. Um...do you think this Navy SEAL dog got to meet Bo? If I got invited to the White House, right after the president, I'd want to meet Bo.

Now that's an interesting question, Lola and Franklin-wonder how we can find that out...hmmm. Does Bo have a FB page or Twitter account?

Dear Bocci,
I would love to meet a Military Dog! I met a real police dog (retired) once and he was a fun guy!

I was so hoping Bo got to go meet this khanine hero -

Mom is a member of a Belgian ListServ - something about wanting a Tervuren one day - and they were all-a-wagging about it being a Malinois!

Belgians are pretty freakin' talented (too) -

Well doggone it! I was stopping by on the Saturday Blog hop today and read your post. To be honest, I was starting to think this military dog story was an internet creation - you know, someone speculates on whether a dog was with the navy seals and suddenly through various tweets, RTs and FB postings, the media starts reporting a dog WAS with the seals.

But then, you said that President Obama met the dog and well, now I have to go look up AC's show on YouTube to see what he said! Cool!

Hi Y'all,

We've been reading this story all over the Internet. We dogs have talents far beyond anything you Humans could understand.

Hey, if I got to go to the WhiteHouse, I'd want to play with Bo...only you Humans care about the President.

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

My money is on a Malinios- they are pretty scary in action. But they work hard and "follow orders" just like a SEAL. We'll be keeping an eye out for any news though!
