A Brief History Of The "No Kill" Movement

Photo of Sido and Richard Avanzino courtesy of R. Avanzino and The San Francisco Chronicle

I thought you all might be interested in reading this inspiring article written by Christie Keith and published in her column in the San Francisco Chronicle. The title of the article is: "Saving Sido: How One Dog Sparked a Movement", and gives an enlightening overview of the "no kill" movement in the United States, and the "four-footed inspiration" for that movement: The now departed, but not forgotten, mixed breed pooch, Sido.

Meanwhile, on this still steamy July Sunday, Parental Unit and I thought we'd help you all cool down a bit by reminding you of winter. Happier now? I thought so.

Hi Bocci - read the story about Sido... he left quite the legacy, but you have to wonder why it took people so long to adopt a "no kill" attitude... and why there are still so many communities today that haven't changed at all. Wish pet stores & breeders could be banned from selling puppies until all the shelters are empty.

I like snow, but this past winter was so bad that it's kept me from complaining about the heat:) Thanks for the reminder.

Still think we should have a least a few meetings "under the old Elm" to organize our squirrel elimination strategy for the fall :-) We must stick together!

Thanks for sharing the inspired story about Sido, we didn't who she was but we do now. My mom and I needs to educate ourselves more often.
Your winter picture here has a cool effect, feel like Christmas in July!
Cheers!
