Speaking of...Animals Speaking

In this Friday's Arts section of The New York Times, there was an article about a guy named John Davis,  a famous movie producer, who will soon bring to life that favorite doggie comic strip, "Marmaduke". There's even a picture of Davis with his arm around the Great Dane star (his real name is George) of that soon-to-be-released summer blockbuster. See the full article right here: www.nytimes.com/2010/05/29/movies/29davis.html

Parental Unit and I were surprised at how long the "Marmaduke" comic strip has been around. According to the Times article, Marmaduke was crreated by Brad Anderson in 1954, which makes that loveable "galumphing" Great Dane about 392 in dog years! Whoaaa...I hope I live that long!

In this updated version, Marmaduke has been moved from Kansas to California and is now "an akward teenager trying to fit in with a bunch of snooty purebreds."  Marmaduke's "voice" is played by Owen Wilson, of  "Marley and Me" fame, and the Dane's feline friend, Carlos, is voiced by the comedian, George Lopez.

But here's what the article also said, "Cinema snobs may roll their eyes, but from way back in film history, talking animals have been a very good business bet." Now, don't we already know that...?

By the way, don't ya think I resemble Rin Tin Tin in this picture?

Oh Asta, you are so kind :-) Truth be told, I'm not the bravest doggie, so maybe someone could stand in for both of us if it comes time to rescue anyone!
