Bye Bye Birdie

Well, we had another unbelievable performance by Parental Unit today - boy can she let out a shriek!
Today was trash day on our street, and Parental Unit, as usual, put the container out on the sidewalk last night. When we left for our morning walk, there was this poor dead bird lying chest up on the sidewalk, talons curled in little fists, like some prizefighter ready to strike. Can you believe our luck? Birdie just happened to croak right in front of our steps and right beside the trash bin. If you know Parental Unit like I do, you know that she can't deal with the sight of anything dead, even a fly (don't ask, O.K.?) So when we got to the stoop, she screamed, and at the same time, yanked me away from the body ( I wasn't going to eat it or anything-I'm a terrier, not a bird dog!)  But luckily, no neighbors came running out, despite a decibel level that could've woke the dead, so we started our walk. But the whole time, I could just feel that she was hatching a plan for someone else to dispose of that body...
And you guessed it, just as we arrived home, the soon-to-be hero trash collectors had just stopped in front of our house, and Parental Unit ran up to the guy and said, "Sir," pointing to the bird, "could you please..." and then her voice was drowned out by the roar of the garbage truck. But this guy was one bright fella and immediately picked up Birdie by the leg and tossed him into the truck. Guess who let out another blood curdling scream?  My God is she embarassing...

Not to be mean but I wish I could have been there to witness this from across the street!

Actually, our neighbors across the street are the ones she usually turns to for help with the dead, but they were't out yet ( I saw her scanning the street right away)-Had you been there , you would have been called upon!
Hopeless? Absolutely!
