Pets And Human Music: Calming The Wild Beast?

Well, dogs and cats aren't exactly wild beasts, but they both seem to understand, and even respond emotionally to human music. According to this recent article in the Huffington Post, "humans like music that falls within our acoustic and vocal range, uses tones we understand, and progresses at a tempo similar to our heartbeats." Because animals have vocal ranges and heartbeats very different than ours, they have a hard time "enjoying" songs that are composed for the human ear.

But never fear, cat music is here! After studying the frequency range and heartbeats of cats, two researchers have composed music they think finicky felines will like, and are selling "cat songs' online at $1.99 per song through a company aptly called "Music for Cats".

The bottom line, according to the researchers: "...we understand music in a different way than animals do."

What do you think? Have you ever lulled you pet to sleep or spurred them to action with music? Let us know!
