Communities Are Getting Tough On Dog Poop!

Hurry and pick up my poop, Parental Unit, so we can keep walkin'!

We're reaching the tail end of International Pooper Scooper Week (excuse the really good pun) and thought it apropos to call your attention to the latest community to get extra tough on dog poop, or should we say, tough on those humans who don't pick it up—Seattle.

I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to read this article in the Seattle Times that discusses the boon in doggie DNA testing kits in use in the Seattle area and why. It happens that Seattle is known for its dogs. In fact, the Seattle area has about 50% more dogs than kids—that's approximately 811,000 canines. And apparently, this area is also known for humans who don't care to pick up their dog's business. According to one apartment complex property manager: "There was poop inside the elevators, in the carpeted hallways, up on the roof,'' you name it. Now, 26 apartment and condo complexes are requiring tenants with dogs to have their canine's DNA tested and put on file. And when the offending poop is found, the culprit is easily tracked down—the poop tests are said to be 99.9% accurate in identifying the guilty paws, er,  hands.

Why was a dog like me so shocked to read about dog owners who are oblivious to their dog's poop? Because Parental Unit is fanatical about picking up mine. Just today, we saw a handwritten sign stabbed directly in dog poop, taunting the offending party, daring them to return. And every time Parental Unit sees dog poop just sitting there on the ground, she shakes her head and mumbles to herself in disbelief. But to let your dog poop inside the building where you live—in elevators and hallways—and not pick it up... Hoo Boy! Are there any flagrant offenders in your area? Let us know!

Well if people who don't pick up get in trouble all good we say. Have a terrific Tuesday.

Parental Unit just couldn't believe what she was reading! It's bad enough not picking up your dog's poop outside—but inside your apartment building? Like we said..."Hoo Boy"!

Collecting doggie DNA seemed a little extreme until I read the part about poop being in elevators and hallways, unbelievable!
