Homeless Cats + Cafe = Adoption!

Have you stopped by for a coffee and cat lately? Yet another great idea to spur adoptions, the Cat Town Cafe & Adoption Center lets patrons mingle with kitties running free...or just snoozing as in the above photo. The cats get a double dose of positive vibes: First, they're not confined to a cage like in a traditional shelter environment, and secondly, their personalities shine through in this open environment, brimming with lofty perches and cat toys, helping them to be more adoptable.

To satisfy food service laws, the cats are in a separate room—while they mingle with the patrons they don't mingle with the food. Interested patrons pay $10 an hour to play with the kitties...and perhaps get a new family member. Although the cafe just opened in late October (it's the first permanent cat cafe in the U.S.), it's already arranged 52 adoptions, and the cats come from the local shelter, which frees up their space to save even more felines. The good word has spread, and cat cafes have arrived in Denver, Colorado, Naples, Florida, and downtown Manhattan.

What a fantastic idea! Have any of our readers visited one of these "Cat Town" cafes? Let us know!
