"Landfill Dogs": One Photographer's Mission

Photo of Shannon Johnstone courtesy CNN

This recent CNN article about the plight of shelter dogs packs a powerful punch, and that's because Shannon Johnstone pulls no punches with her photography—or her message. Landfill Dogs, is a series of photographs documenting joyous shelter dogs romping across a reclaimed park once used as a dumping ground for trash.

Johnstone's message is not subtle or joyous, though. She intends this gorgeous photography project to call attention to the plight of shelter dogs, and just how many of these fun-loving pups "could end up in the landfill, buried with everything else people have discarded", if they're not adopted. But there's been good news for most of the dogs Johnstone photographed for this project: Of the 127 dogs she's captured with her camera playing on the landfill turned park, 108 have been adopted.

We admire people who don't sugar coat the facts, and the talented and brave Shannon Johnstone has earned our kudos. Let us know what you think.
