It's National Hairball Awareness Day!

Woo Hoo! Is that a big, beautiful picture of our dear friend Romeo the Cat, or what? For the fourth year in a row, Romeo has been the spokescat for FURminator's National Hairball Awareness Day, and we were thrilled that Romeo asked us to participate in this year's celebration, along with lots of our blogging friends.

We hope you all join us as we call attention to a very important day- (almost) all kidding aside-because hairballs are really no laughing matter. I'll let my feline sister, Bella, explain:

Bella, grooming herself while sitting on my head...

As you can see, I'm a short-haired kitty, but that doesn't mean I don't shed a ton, and I groom myself all day (when I'm not eating or sleeping, of course) So that means that I ingest lots of hair-or would, if my Parental Unit wasn't so conscientious about helping me with my grooming chores. You see, my smart Parental Unit has been both brushing and using a FURminator grooming tool on my svelte little body since I was a wee kitten-she has been determined to reduce my shedding and prevent hairballs. And guess what? I'll be turning eight years young sometime in August, and I've never had a hairball!

And I just learned, thanks to a hairball fact sheet from our friends at FURminator, that I've been spared a lot of discomfort-did you know that we cats ingest up to 2/3 of our hair as we self-groom, and eventually, globs of hair could have formed in my stomach and caused me to barf up a hairball (or glob) and/or caused an intestinal blockage? Yikes!

So now that we know that all of you cat parents out there should use a FURminator cat grooming tool  to decrease shedding, help our coats look sleek and shiny, and prevent hairballs, let's move on to the fun stuff! To help celebrate the day, FURminator held a contest to see who among us bloggers could make the coolest looking "celebrity" hairball creature. Check out the full gallery here:
www.facebook.com/FURminator. And please join me in a very loud "Meow" to congratulate the winner of FURminator's Celebrity Hairball Contest, Stephanie Harwin, author of the fabulous cat blog, Catsparella! FURminator is donating $1000, in Catsparella's name to the shelter of their choosing. A hearty congrats to Stephanie for her fabulous celebrity hairball creature-go check it out!

This was a great contest and it was wonderful that we could have some fun while being able to give some great tips to all the cats of the world about how to manage hairballs. The FURminator is a fantastic product and our household of seven cats would highly recommmend it to any cat!

I'm glad we don't have any kitties here. I don't think my mom likes having hairballs everywhere. My furballs is her headache nowadays. Tee hee.
