Marine Corporal Megan Leavey is having a difficult time formally adopting Sargent Rex, her faithful canine companion with whom she served for over three years and two deployments to Iraq. According to this article on MSNBC.com, both Corporal Leavey and Sargent Rex were injured in a roadside bomb blast in 2006. After Leavey recovered, she was discharged from the Marines in 2007 and is currently pursuing a career as a dog handler-but she never forgot her four-legged buddy. Rex also recovered and continued to work for the military, but now at the age of 10, he's ready to be discharged..

But not so fast. There's lots of paper work to be filed and decisions to be made before the two can be reunited. Although the paperwork is completed, Rex remains in his military kennel, waiting for the discharge to be finalized. Ms. Leavey has already received some congressional support-she enlisted the help of her senator, Charles Schumer (D New York) to write a letter requesting that Rex's discharge be expedited.

No word yet on when Rex will be released-we'll try to keep you posted!
