The Holidays And Your Pets: More Common Sense Safety Tips

We think you can never be careful enough when it comes to your pet's safety-that' why we're bringing you another round of precautions to take during this festive time. Remember that many of us are likely to be away from home more during the time leading up to the holidays (can you say: a full day of work, then grocery shopping, then tracking down the right presents), which can mean less exercise for both you and your pooch. And less exercise means a lot of pent up energy-energy that is often used for naughty, not nice endeavors-like eating tinsel from the tree, or inhaling whatever happens to slip to the floor.

So our first tip is to avoid changing your dog's routine-and try to make time every day for some fairly rigorous exercise-you'll both feel better.

Who is this happy family? Don't ask us!

Beyond that, we think these ten tips from one of our favorite holistic veterinarians, Dr. Karen Becker, are particularly helpful. We agree that sometimes it's just easier to "skip" certain traditions when you have active pets, like tinsel on the tree (especially if you're owned by a cat, says Dr. Becker) or live holiday plants.
And securing the tree to the wall and keeping Fido and Fluffy away from tipsy guests are both savvy ideas to avoid a potential disaster. Feel free to add your own tips to this list-we'd love to hear what's worked for you in the past and what precautions you plan to take this year.

Here's wishing all of you a safe holiday season!

Thank you! It's always great to have these reminders on how to keep the pest safe during the holidays. :)

Dr. Becker's article was great.

We just got our tree - it smells lovely and I'm trying to come up with a plan on how I can get my teeth into it without getting busted! :-)
