For the first time, we attempted to use the Random.org number sequence generator. We put in the numbers 1-17 because there were 17 total comments-but we must say that at least two commentors wrote a separate comment for each time they took a required action, like following our blog or signing up for our new mailing list. We should have made clear that only one comment was necessary or required, and technically, only one of those comments should count. Nevertheless, the number four came up first, and according to Random.org's information, the first number is the winner.
Next time, we will count only one comment per blog and enter that number into the random sequencer (we love that name, random sequencer, don't you? It sounds like a machine on the set of Star Trek!)
But here's what just happened: Parental Unit entered the numbers earlier today and then saved the page, thinking she'd copy and paste it in this post, so you could see our selection was legitimate. But when she went to copy the page, she must have hit, "Try Again"in the process, and another set of numbers was randomly generated-aaach!
Here's where we plugged in the numbers, though.
This form allows you to generate randomized sequences of integers. The randomness comes from atmospheric noise, which for many purposes is better than the pseudo-random number algorithms typically used in computer programs.
So if you don't mind, please believe us this time, and we'll figure out a way to bring you the results for the next giveway coming soon. Here's a hint: our next giveaway is a new product from our friends at FURminator!

Note: A randomized sequence does not contain duplicates (the numbers are like raffle tickets drawn from a hat). There is also the Integer Generator which generates the numbers independently of each other (like rolls of a die) and where each number can occur more than once.

we use random.org too.
There is a new system called rafflecopter that can help you when running a giveaway but that is for a contest where several different comments are entered for different things that are required.

I use random.org too for my give-aways. I always only use one comment (unless more are required) if you are requiring more steps for an entry then in my opinion all the comments should be counted if leaving a comment is part of the requirement. I hope that made sense!
