Online Rummage Sale For Homeless Pets!

Many of you are already familiar with Blogpaws' Be the Change for Pets and their numerous fundraising projects on behalf of homeless pets-remember Paws for Japan? Well, get ready for some spring cleaning, because Be the Change for Pets has another great idea: From May 18-25 it's hosting a worldwide, online rummage sale to benefit animal shelters-and the money you raise goes to your favorite shelter. Great idea! Read all of the details here and consider joining in the fun:        www.blogpawsbethechange.com/2011/04/sell-your-stuff-save-a-life-the-worlds-first-ever-online-rummage-sale-for-pets.html#more.

And speaking of rummage sales, we wanted to bring you a few pictures from what our neighborhood calls its "Valuables Day Sale". Parental Unit and I live in a small historic community directly south of downtown Columbus, Ohio, called "German Village" - it's where many German immigrants settled in the mid to late 1800's. Let's just say there's lots of brick and breweries! Actually, it's the largest historic neighborhood restored entirely with private funds in the country, and ridiculously charming, dotted as it is with cozy brick cottages, craft shops and dining galore.

Every year in mid-May we have the "Village Valuables Day Sale", where nearly everyone puts out their stuff-you know the saying: one person's trash is another person's treasure...! It seems that everyone in the village participates either by hosting a sale or just wandering around, with their dogs in tow, to check out their neighbors' "valuables" and chat with one another. It's also a great excuse for a party, of which we Villagers are extremely fond-can you say Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's at 8:00 am?.

Here are some photos of the event to get you in the rummage sale and party mood.

The dogs were just browsing with their humans-none for sale!

Yes, people came from surrounding towns and states with trucks to transport their treasures.

Just cruising through sans helmets but with matching bandannas.

Yes, that's a washing machine and Viking range in the bed of that truck!

This a really great idea, Bocci! I have lots to sell, but not sure I can get my act together in two days. Unfortunately, this is mama's busy time at work. Let me think about this ...

I love the idea of that Village Valuables Day Sale. Sounds a good chance to meet up with your neighbours too.

We saw the BlogPaws online rummage sale - but we've got quite a bit of stuff gathered up so the Lady Of The House is going to get up at stupid-o-clock on Sunday to have a pitch in a nearby field where there's a car boot sale for a pet charity. I think I'll stay in bed.

Love and licks, Winnie the Greyhound xx
