Royal Dogs

As we're gearing up for the royal wedding (how many of you are setting your alarms or DVR-ing the event?), we saw this piece in our recent Modern Dog Magazine newsletter that you might enjoy: hosted.verticalresponse.com/209867/d4e91a00a7/1641030625/d87246cdd9/  It's a fun read that details the various dog breeds favored by royalty through the centuries. For example, did you know that it was a darling Maltese who accompanied Mary Queen of Scots to her beheading, supposedly hiding under her skirts until the dark deed was finished?

And speaking of dog breeds, the Science section of yesterday's New York Times had a short article on a newly published study the correlates dog deaths by breed. The study appears in the March/April issue of The Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. The bottom line is what we might have expected: "...the most common cause of death varies considerably by breed to breed and by age. While Golden Retrievers and Boxers had the highest rates of cancer of all breeds, cancer is still "the leading cause of canine deaths over all."
Read the summary of this very important study here: www.nytimes.com/2011/04/26/science/26obdogs.html?_r=1&ref=science

You should wear a crown! We don't have television (we do have a TV for watching movie on DVD...) so we will miss the coverage for the most part. We will try to catch it on the internet though! We've also enjoyed listening to BBC 1 on satellite radio - they are doing a great job at getting us all excited for the big event!

I'm the 'King of Terriers', how come I didn't get invited to the royal wedding?
