Why Pet Adoption?

Petfinder Adopt-the-Internet Day

By now, we all know that today is the day that Pet Finder has chosen as "Adopt the Internet Day", to call attention to the plight of millions of homeless animals, and what we can do together with social media to promote pet adoption. Pet Finder has a glorious track record in their 15 years of showcasing adoptable pets on the Internet: 17 million adoptions! Please check out their special page for this special day: www.petfinder.com/info/adopt-the-internet and their gallery of 320,000 adoptable pets right here:
www.petfinder.com/adopt-the-internet-2011/gallery.

Now, we are not saying that everyone who wants a pet must adopt one-there are plenty of reliable, trustworthy breeders out there if you want to raise a purebred puppy or kitten. What we are doing by partnering with Petfinder and tons of other folks is suggesting that if you're in the market, so to speak, for a dog or cat, (and even if you're not) that you give some consideration to adoption.

You know, our Parental Unit is a "Joan come lately" to the adoption and rescue scene. She'd always had purebred dogs purchased from reputable breeders. But, in the fall of 2004, she found this sweet little thing in a cold, dark parking lot... and well, let's just say that Bella endeared herself to everyone.

Here's Ms. Bella at approximately eight weeks.

By the time Parental Unit lost her dear Wire Fox Terrier, Carson in 2008 at the ripe old age of 16,
(See Mr. Carson chomping on the flowers, below)

she knew that adoption was in her future. Why? Because she was influenced by what she read and saw: the bottom line is that in the U.S. alone, over 5 million companion animals are euthanized each year. That was enough for her, and off to the shelter she went.

And here I am making myself comfortable on my new rug, just hours after I officially became a member of the family.

So to make a long story about us short...we've made it our mission to promote adoption and rescue of companion animals. And we're hoping that you will be influenced by what you read and hear and make the choice, when the time is right for you, to adopt a homeless pet.

Here are just two of the many companion animals waiting for furever homes on PetFinder:

Don't forget to follow the "Adopt the Internet Day" festivities on Pet finder's Facebook and Twitter pages!

As always, thanks so much for your support.

Thanks so much for all you do to promote adoption. That's what Mom is trying to do with her 50 Shelters / 50 States blog series. So many wonderful animals need homes - I wish they could all get great ones like you and I have.

Adorable photos! I love animals. I have to tell you...I picked up a newspaper today. I never read the newspaper, but my daughter was "Student of the Month" and was in the paper. On the front page was a story about a guy who moved out of his apartment and left his cat to die in the closet. The creep is being punished, thank goodness, but I've been sick about it all day. I'm going back to not reading the paper!
On a more positive note.....

I did not know about the day, but I've been so very out of the loop. Thank you for doing this post. I'm sure in favor of adoption. All of us here at our house were adopted. In the case of us doggies our humans came and found us at shelters. In the case of the kitties, they found our humans and decided to move in. Either way it totally worked out for all of us.

Martin Luther's efforts generated a new Coach Outlet Store crop of believers known today Ray Ban Glasses as "Protestants" or protesters of Catholicism. It would certainly seem unfair and unjust for a bad person who have committed heinous acts on another individual, who never get caught to just simply die and never have to be judged and punished for such actions.
