Heroes and Hounds

We just learned of this wonderful program from an article in The Huffington Post. Operation Heroes and Hounds, a program supported by a veteran advocacy non-profit called "New Directions", pairs dogs deemed unadoptable by local shelters with war veterans who are having a difficult time adjusting to civilian life. The veterans and dogs end up helping one another-the nervous dogs are trained and nurtured with hope of their eventual adoption, and we can surely imagine how it can benefit humans to nurture another living creature, partcularly a dog facing his last days. According to this article, the veterans who complete the program report a 35% quality-of-life increase. Read the full artcile here and notice where you can donate to help support Operation Heroes and Hounds if you're so inclined:www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/24/operation-heroes-hounds-veterans_n_840257.html

And we thought you'd enjoy this inspiring short video about the program.

What a great program. It's a win win deal ... and such a good intervention in both directions.

Now. About moving to Colorado. We think it's a great idea! (We are a bit partial to the state ... even if we do complain a lot in the spring!)

Much love and many xxx

This is really an amazing program. My grandpa is a combat veteran and has struggled for the last 30 years. Hoping this program helps many people so they don't have to suffer in silence the way my grandfather has ...Thanks for sharing, Bocci!

Yes, we agree with you all! We were thrilled when we saw this program, and are thankful to the men and women, not only in our armed services, but to those who came up with and then implemented this great idea!
