The Magical Mutt Mystery Tour!

Thanks to our friends at willmydoghateme.com/, peggyfrezon.blogspot.com,  and www.istillwantmorepuppies.blogspot.com/ for coming up with the idea for this fun bloghop-we're thrilled to say that we're an official member of the "Mutt Club" (O.K.we just made up that club name, but we think it's fitting!) Check out any of these blogs for not only incredible and fun pet-related content, but for directions to enter this bloghop!

Meanwhile, here we go with our Magical Mutt Mystery Tour post! I'll let Parental Unit take over from here-hope she's says good things about me...

Bocci jumped into my arms (literally) at our local shelter in June of 2008, and well...the rest is history. He's been a fabulous friend, and surprisingly, he turned out to be a darn good writer, too. Now, I know that we all think our dogs are funny, but Bocci is just a side-splitter-he's willing to chase after anything that even vaguely resembles a toy (particularly if it sqeaks) and has a ton of fun doing it. He loves to try and bat the toys with his paws as they're bouncing-does he think he's going to catch them?

His most amazing quality is that's he's extremely gentle-he puts up with brushing, teeth and ear cleaning, trimming, you name it, and just adores short people...I mean kids. But he's also a darn good watchdog-he's been very selective about his barking and so far he's "Batting 1000." I'm sure he even saved me during one late night walk from a particularly scary dude.

By the way, he's about 18 inches high at the shoulder and weighs 31 pounds. The shelter papers called him a "Terrier Mix", and I'm thinking maybe Schnauzer, Beagle...and a few other things. What do you think are his "blends"?

And dare I say that he's a good lookin' fella? Just take a look at these fabulous photos taken by Rachel at www.rachellaurenphotography.com - he considers her his personal photographer, you know:-)

You rang?

Meeting at the Old Elm Tree to Discuss Squirrel Eradication.

I can't help but repeat a previous statistic from a post I wrote earlier this week: 75% of all dogs in shelters are mixed breeds, or "blends". Maybe if we figure out why so many mixed breeds end up in shelters, we can finally come up with a way to bring those numbers way down. What do you think?

Oh my, Bocci is adorable, I think he is the true Heinz 57 Variety! He looks a lot like my childhood dog Corky, who was Airedale and Collie (and ?)so I'm guessing maybe some of that. I'll be back to check on him some more!

Most wonderful pictures. Our Angel Brother Lucky was a mix. We got him from a rescue. But he like you was wonderful with "short people".

Wags!

I love Bocci. I am so glad you decided to participate!

He has to be be terrier, maybe Tibetan? There could be some schnauzer there as well, I agree, or Norfolk terrier. But he doesn't look small enough.

I didn't think this would be so difficult. There are a lot of great mixes out there to be sure!

Bocci is great! I have no idea beyond some sort of terrier. He has such a familiar look to him and yet I can't pinpoint anything. He looks like a really fun dog.

Hi there bocci! Your blog is nice :)

You're pretty cute too. I like your rin tin tin pose a lot. I wish I had a professional photographer too.

My guess for what you might be (other than a spiffy toto dog) is wheaten terrier, maybe Norfolk terrier and minischnauzer. And a lot of other terriers.

Have a great day :)

Squirrel eradication? Sounds like a terrier for sure!

I don't have any guesses, but Bocci looks identical to a dog my grandparents had when I was growing up named Trixie. Kind of embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what made up Trixie, either!

What an adorable pup you are!
I would guess some Wheaten, and whatever makes up a Benji terrier.

Personally I think "mutts" have the best personalities (but I love my purebreds too) and can not understand how so many wonderful dogs end up in shelters. I know it is not often because of their behaviors. People just make excuses to blame the dogs.

And if you want help promoting you to get that book deal or on Dr. Oz, let me know. I am there for you.

It's not for me to guess Bocci's background but to stand back and admire his wonderfulness. He looks like my best friend's terrier mix, Archie, my second favorite dog (after Frankie).

As for why they end up in pounds, I think because people consider them "accidents" and don't give them the time and patience they might give a purebred they spent a lot of money on. Oh, foolish, foolish people acting on dumb stereotypes!

Wow! What a gorgeous fella! I would say he's a cross between Sandy (from Annie) and Benji. So if I had to guess I would say Airedale or Wheaten and possibly (I know it's going to sound out there), but Golden. There is something about his face that makes me think of a Golden (the eyes?).

I think Airedale & something ...

I initially thought of something like wire vizsla or wirehaired pointing griffon - something about the tail & stance. But the size wouldn't work...

What a lovely fun face & great smile he has!

Bocci is just so darn cute! (I'm pretty sure I've said that before, but it does bear repeating.)

I'm a little late getting to all of the blogs on the hop, but I'll still toss out a guess - hmmmm, maybe some Wheaten, a dash of Cairn?
