A Bittersweet Story

And it actually does involve both a dog and a horse. In The New York Times today, in the "New York" Section is a beautiful piece about two men and a young boy with special needs whom they adopted, titled "Against All Odds, a Beautiful Life." This courageous young man, Maurice, passed away on January 14, 2011, but what a beautiful legacy he left. His grieving fathers and older brother are joined by his faithful dog, Hunter, and horse, Rocky, in mourning his passing. The writing is so beautiful that we dare not try to summarize further.

Parental Unit thought this story was so touching, yet uplifting, that she read it three times in a row, and felt compelled to share with those who might have missed it.
Read and enjoy the full story here: www.nytimes.com/2011/01/24/nyregion/24towns.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion

After reading this, I thought I'd just sit quietly for awhile and contemplate my place in this crazy, wonderful world...

Having just listened to a hateful diatribe on cable, this lesson of love helped restore my equilibrium. Wilf the other day was quoted as saying that love makes things easy. It also makes them so bittersweet.

Once again, thank you dear Bocci!!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful story, Bocci. Mama says she needed something like this to make her slow down and remember what is really important.

My Dad forwarded this article to me because I actually grew up in Montclair about two blocks from this house. I knew there was a horse there but I didn't know Maurice's story until I read the lovely article.
