Adopted Dog Finds Happy Home...And He's My Cousin!

Hey, speaking of adopting dogs... here's a wonderful and personal (to Parental Unit and me) adopted dog story. I'd like to introduce you all to my cousin Beaux-he's a Black Lab and Irish Setter Mix and his rescue has an interesting twist.

Beaux lounging in his new forever home

For the first year and a half of his life, Beaux was living with a family that included several Springer Spaniels. Unfortunately, his owner suddenly passed away, leaving Beaux and his Springer Spaniel siblings homeless. A local Springer Spaniel Rescue took in his siblings, but didn't have the space or the money to handle Beaux, so a Cocker Spaniel rescue group took him in rather than see him go to the pound. And that's where Parental Unit's cousins come in-they had lost their Golden Retriever a year earlier and weren't sure they wanted another dog just yet...but Beaux's picture on the Cocker Spaniel rescue's website won both my cousin and his wife over immediately-he's a real handsome fella, isn't he?

O.K. here's the inside scoop: Parental Unit's cousin, Ralph, was perusing his Company's classifieds when he happened upon Beaux's picture, which he sent to his wife, Martha, just so she could see what a good-lookin' dog he was...or so he thought. Ralph promptly left for a short business trip, which just happened to be around the time of his birthday...and guess who greeted him at the door when he came home?

That was just a year ago, and now two and a half year old Beaux has settled nicely into his new home. It seems that Beaux was a tad overweight when he came to live with his new family, tipping the scales at a whopping 90 pounds! But with lots of exercise and the right diet, he now weighs in at a very respectable 75 pounds.

( Don't tell Parental Unit I'm saying this, but maybe she should go live with her cousins for a year-15 pounds is exactly how much weight she has to lose...)

Here's another picture of smiling Beaux.

P.S. Parental Unit is hoping that each of our 152 followers will write a short post on their blog by September 19th, mentioning the Pedigree Adoption Drive detailed in Sunday's post, below. Now, we're not great at math, but when Pedigree donates 20 pounds of dog food to shelters across the country for each post written, we think that equals 3, 040 pounds of dog food generated from this blog, alone!
We would be extremely thankful...and so would a lot of homeless dogs!

As always, thanks for your support.

What a happy ending story! Because our secretary's been selfishly absorbed with her own stuff in the past month, we missed your blog about the Pedigree Adoption -- but she agreed to check it out now.
