A Salute To Our Veterans, Both Two and Four-Legged!

Today we pause to honor our military veterans-and yes, we choose to include our canine military dogs in this salute. They have served faithfully along side our human soldiers for nearly 100 years and saved countless soldier and civilian lives. As most of us know, President Wilson first proclaimed "Armistice Day" on November 11.1919,  to commemorate the end of W.W.I. The name was later changed to "Veteran's day" and expanded to include all veterans of U.S. wars and conflicts. And this year is the first that our nation will salute its veterans without a living veteran from W.W.I - Frank Buckles, the last know living W.W.I veteran died at the age of 110 on February 27, 2011.

To round-out the commemoration, we thought you might enjoy this article from PolicyMic.com that names their picks for the "Top 5 American Dog Soldiers From W.W.I to the War On Terror".
Interestingly, when Veteran's Day was finally made a national holiday by an act of Congress in 1938, it was declared, "A day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace". So what can we do today to both honor all of our veterans and dedicate ourselves to the cause of world peace?

We'd love to hear your thoughts...
