All Hallow's Eve, Wonderful Pet Costumes From PetSmart, And Our Pet Parade!

Here I am in full Halloween garb...

As you can probably guess from the above photo, Parental Unit chose the Cowardly Lion from among the many pet Halloween costumes available at PetSmart this year. It was a tough choice, but she thinks I look like a lion anyway (although I'm certainly not cowardly!) Here's a hearty thank you to PetSmart for providing this great costume for us!

Of course, PetSmart sells tons of Halloween costumes for pets from a variety of manufacturers, but this one is from Rubies's Costume Company. By the way, Rubie's makes dog costumes for all of the main characters in The Wizard of Oz, including Dorothy! The Cowardly Lion costume is made from 100% polyester and both the fur and the leggings are super soft-the leg material feels like a light flannel. And for each costume (they've got 84 dog costumes left, folks, plan ahead for next year!) PetSmart's website provides a detailed description, available sizes, and measurements for each size and for each costume, which makes it easy to choose the right costume and the right size for your pooch.

The first thing we noticed about this costume is the level of detail: it included a full fur "mane" (that attaches with Velcro at the top of my back), with a little "Courage" medal attached (this is Parental Unit's favorite part!), a fur cap which tied under my chin and had slits for my ears, and a rabbit's foot attached to the side arm. How many of you remember that the Cowardly Lion was always stroking his rabbit's foot (and his own tail) in the film?

The costume was definitely easy to put on and secure, although I must admit, I could have given Parental Unit an easier time of it:-) Once the costume was securely on, though, I settled in for a decent photo shoot.

Don't I look like a lion in this one? (PU must have just given me a treat...)

Although I didn't wear the costume to our local Halloween Pet Parade (it was raining and I just wanted to go sniff out the competition, and Parental Unit wanted to snap a few photos and chat with our neighbors), I'm sure I would have won! But here are a few pics from this year's Halloween Pet Parade in German Village, so you get an idea of the festivities

                             Speaking of a lion...
The woman in the background with the shawl is a pastor who blessed both Parental Unit and me...and all the other animals there, too.

We liked this little terrier jailbird the best!

This little fella with his cardboard costume won one of the prizes.

Here's a tiny alligator and an Ohio State Buckeye all tangled up!

We hope you all have a fun and spooky Halloween!
